We know Belgian Malinois dogs for their bravery, intelligence, and loyalty, but even among such amazing animals, they still find ways to amaze us! Eva, a two-year-old Belgian girl, showed an incredible level of loyalty when she protected her owner from a mountain lion attack during a hike.
Belgian Malinois Eva Heroically Defends Her Hooman From A Mountain Lion Attack
Without any hesitation, Eva put her life on the line to defend her owner, reminding us once again why dogs are truly the best companions we could ever ask for!
Let’s dive into her story!
Eva Jumped To Save Erin Without Hesitation
One day, Erin Wilson decided to go for a hike with her dog, Eva, along the Trinity River in Northwestern California. She never imagined that she would end up facing a mountain lion that day!
As Erin walked, the wild cat suddenly leaped in front of her, scratching her shoulder in the process. Shocked, she screamed for help, and that’s when Eva, her loyal Belgian Malinois, immediately sprang into action!
Despite being much smaller than the wild predator, Eva fearlessly launched herself at the mountain lion. The two animals wrestled while Erin frantically searched for something to help. She grabbed a tire iron and rushed back, hitting the mountain lion as hard as she could, but the situation still looked dire.
The mountain lion clamped its jaws onto Eva’s head, its sharp teeth puncturing her skull. Thankfully, a couple of passing motorists saw what was happening and used pepper spray to drive the lion away.
Severe Wounds On Her Skull
Eva was badly hurt, with blood everywhere, and she suffered from severe injuries. During the drive to the hospital, she began having convulsions because her skull had been fractured, and her sinus cavity was punctured. Her life was in grave danger, but she was rushed to the Redding hospital in Northern California’s Shasta Cascade region.
Eva, strong as she was, fought hard to stay alive. She needed a long recovery, though, so Erin set up a fundraiser to help cover the costly medical bills for her brave pup.
For several days, Eva remained heavily sedated because the pressure in her skull was still too high, and the swelling around her eyes made it difficult for her to see.
The Brave Girl Passed Away, But Her Memory Still Lives On
After some time, Eva began to improve. She was able to come home and return to some of her normal activities. Erin even took her on walks, and for a while, it seemed like Eva was her usual self, showing no signs of weakness.
But then, the one thing Erin feared most happened. One night, out of nowhere, Eva started having seizures, and her condition quickly took a turn for the worse.
She fell into a deep coma, completely unresponsive to any kind of stimuli. Tragically, her body couldn’t handle the toll of her injuries, and just a few hours later, Eva passed away.
Erin was heartbroken when she realized that her courageous girl was gone.
"This world is not fair. It is cruel. This wasn't supposed to happen. Our baby is gone and now we have no one come and be held with us. We don't have our kisses. I don't have my girl’s incredibly soft fur. She was so delicate. So dainty," Erin wrote on her Instagram in deep sorrow.
Although Eva is no longer with us, her memory will live on as a symbol of true bravery.
She was Erin’s guardian angel, protecting her in every way possible. You will always be remembered, sweet girl!
