Our furry companions have an incredible ability to feel emotions deeply, which can be clearly seen in the strong bond they share with their favorite humans. Their immense love and loyalty are undeniable.

This is especially evident when dogs are part of a warm home filled with a caring family. They thrive in that love and show their gratitude every day.

However, the depth of their attachment becomes even clearer when a dog suddenly finds itself separated from those it trusted the most.

The grief these animals experience is hard to describe in words and often brings tears to the eyes of those who truly understand the profound connection between dogs and their humans.

Lately, this heartbreaking reality has become more familiar to the employees and volunteers in shelters, which are increasingly filled with dogs that have been surrendered by their families.

Recently, an incident shared by a shelter employee allowed many others to witness one such story, and for many, it was nothing short of devastating. 

She Thought They Were Coming Back

One day, after seven years of being part of the family, a dog was brought to the shelter and surrendered by her owners.

After they walked out and closed the door behind them, the reaction of their dog was so moving that a shelter employee felt compelled to share this touching moment with others.

In a TikTok video posted by @lovinpet.global, a Livestock Guardian dog is shown standing near the door, her eyes full of sadness as she looks at the shelter worker. 

"She wanted to wait by the door thinking they were coming back," it was stated in the video. "She loved the children, after all, she is a guardian dog."

The shelter employee soon approached the heartbroken pooch to offer comfort, fully aware that "these dogs go through so much pain when they are surrendered."

Because of this compassionate act, the distressed dog managed to find some solace, though it did little to erase the deep pain caused by the ones she loved and trusted most.

That emotional scar will likely remain with her for a lifetime. 

"Please love them and protect them to the end," it was stated in the video.

Viewers Were Heartbroken

The video quickly gained attention online, stirring strong emotions and bringing many to tears.

While many viewers expressed deep sadness for what the dog went through, others were also angry at the people who had chosen to abandon her. 

Amidst the numerous responses, a few stood out and reflected the sentiments of many. 

"Oh my ❤️…So sad how confusing it is to not have your humans..She is beautiful.." one user wrote. 

"Heartbreaking. I'm literally crying right now," another added. 

A third commented: "I'll never understand how people can do this regardless of the situation 🥺."

There are various reasons people choose to surrender their dogs, and in some cases, the reasons can be truly justified. However, surrendering a dog should be the last option and avoided whenever possible.

If there is any doubt about being able to provide a lifelong commitment, it is better not to adopt a dog in the first place. For those who must rehome their pet, taking the time to find a foster or, if possible, a permanent loving home is the kinder route.

Making a small sacrifice is far better than leaving them heartbroken. The sorrowful expression on this Livestock Guardian dog's face is a testament to that truth.
