I can hardly imagine what must have been going through Imelda’s mind that day.
Dog That Couldn't Stop Shaking in Her Tiny Kennel Leaves Everyone Heartbroken
Imelda, a two-year-old dog, was placed in a small kennel in a packed shelter in Kansas. She must have felt completely alone and incredibly frightened in that situation.
This poor pup was shaking uncontrollably. She pressed herself against the wall, as if trying to find any small amount of comfort.
But all she could hear were the loud, piercing noises coming from the other dogs in their kennels around her.
Imelda’s expression looked almost like a sad clown, as if her face had been painted with deep sadness. She was truly that traumatized!
It didn’t take long for her heartbreaking story to spread across the country, leaving thousands of people in tears at the sight of her condition.
Facing Euthanasia
People couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw how Imelda looked. She was in such bad shape, and it was difficult to take in.
Her sad story, accompanied by videos and pictures, quickly went viral online. Soon, many people were asking about her situation, desperate to know how she was doing.
The reality was hard to swallow. Imelda was on the verge of being added to the euthanasia list, simply because she was so scared. There was nothing she could do about it, and it felt completely unfair.
Thankfully, her story caught the attention of Diamonds in the Ruff Rescue, a Missouri-based rescue group. They didn’t hesitate for a second before stepping in to help.
"She made herself smaller as someone approached her in the kennel…she backed up to the wall in the kennel as if she was saying, I promise I'm good, I'll be good, just give me a chance," they shared in a Facebook post.
After witnessing Imelda in such a terrible state, the rescue team immediately decided to take her out of that kennel and into a loving foster home, where she could start to heal.
Within just a few days, Imelda was out of the shelter and settling into a whole new environment.
Though she was still nervous from everything she had been through, you could tell that Imelda already felt so much better in her new surroundings.
The quiet, cozy home helped her relax a little, but what truly made her happiest was having all the love and attention she could have ever dreamed of.
She was no longer just one of many dogs stuck in a crowded shelter. She wasn’t being overlooked or neglected anymore. Now, she was the special one, and that made all the difference!
A Whole New Life
Imelda’s foster mom, Stephanie, played a huge role in helping her heal. As an experienced dog foster, Stephanie welcomed her into her home with open arms, and Imelda couldn’t have been more grateful for that.
Before long, she bonded with her new dog siblings and became a real sweetheart of the house. Even though she had been through so much, Imelda showed amazing behavior, learning to do her business outside and sleeping peacefully through the night without making a sound.
"She's good with kids and other dogs. She sleeps in her crate all night without a peep, no accidents in the crate... she whines and paces the house when she needs to go outside, not food aggressive with either humans or dogs," Stephanie proudly shared in a Facebook post.
It turned out that all Imelda really needed was a safe space to call her own—a place where she could feel at home. And now that she had found it, she blossomed into a completely different dog.
Seeing her now, Stephanie finds it hard to believe that Imelda was once so close to being euthanized just because of her fear.
"She is definitely coming around. To think she was on the Euth list for 'fear'... NO REASON. Look at her bloom... her tail wags, and she seems happy," Stephanie wrote on Facebook, filled with relief and joy.
At the moment, Imelda is still waiting to find her forever family. She’s an absolute sweetheart and would fit perfectly into any loving home, although she does prefer homes with children who are over ten years old.
Hopefully, her new family is just around the corner, ready to welcome her with open arms!
