Even though Buddy is still a puppy, just over a year old, he has already faced more hardship than most dogs his age should ever experience.

This poor Great Dane mix was found wandering the streets of Texas, living a life far from what any dog deserves.

When Buddy was finally rescued and offered a warm and safe home, he felt happiness for the first time in his life.

But just when things seemed to be looking up, another heartbreak hit – and this one was devastating!

Buddy’s Heartbreaking Story

A kind couple found Buddy completely cut off from any sort of normal life.

They took him in, giving him a temporary home, but after only a month, they surrendered him to a local shelter in Texas.

Sadly, no one showed any interest in adopting poor Buddy, and the shelter eventually scheduled him for euthanasia.

However, just before the tragic event, the shelter staff found something unexpected – Buddy had a microchip that linked him to a family.

But when they reached out to his original owner, the response was absolutely shocking!

Buddy’s previous owner didn’t want anything to do with him and was perfectly fine with the idea of him being euthanized.

"At the shelter, they discovered Buddy had a microchip and an owner! Normally, this would be a reason to celebrate, a way to reunite a lost dog with its owner. But heartbreakingly, the owner wanted nothing to do with Buddy," CUDDLY shared in a post on their website.

When word spread about Buddy’s dire situation, a small rescue group stepped in and decided to share his story with the world.

This caught the attention of a young couple, who couldn’t stand by and do nothing. They agreed to foster Buddy, giving him a chance to avoid the worst fate once again!

But, unfortunately, Buddy’s health was far from good.

The couple soon discovered that Buddy had serious health issues, including damage to his heart and lungs that left him too weak to even stand.

The rescue group advised them to return Buddy to the shelter, as they didn’t have the funds to support his recovery.

But the couple refused to give up on him. They spent thousands of dollars on vet bills and eventually reached out to Hoardin' Huskies Rescue in Sumter, South Carolina, for additional help.

Partnering with CUDDLY, an online fundraising platform that helps thousands of shelters worldwide, Hoardin' Huskies got Buddy to the veterinary care he desperately needed.

For the first time in what seemed like forever, Buddy was receiving proper treatment, and he was on the path to recovery!

Never Giving Up

Benny's foster parents had to drive nearly five hours to get him to the veterinary clinic.

During the trip, they had to rely on an oxygen tank that was nearly empty by the time they arrived.

"The trip was nerve-wracking for Buddy and his fosters as he traveled with an oxygen tank that was nearly depleted over the 4 1/2-hour drive," a Cuddly representative shared.

Buddy struggled to breathe throughout the ride, and his condition was critical.

As soon as they arrived at the clinic, he was rushed into the emergency room, where his treatment began immediately.

Though the road to recovery would be long and challenging, the veterinary team was hopeful that with enough care and support, Buddy would pull through.

"He is still on oxygen but overall, he is recuperating great! Buddy needs two more weeks of resting and then hopefully, we are praying that he is going to be okay," Cuddly reported in their latest update.

Despite everything he has endured, Buddy has never stopped fighting. Now that he has all the help he needs, there’s no doubt that this brave dog will soon reach the light at the end of the tunnel!
