It's truly heartbreaking to be reminded of the cruelty that some dog owners show toward their loyal pets. Instead of giving them the love and care they deserve, they abandon them without a second thought or any guilt.
Rescuers Lift Dumpster Lid To Find The Sweetest Pair Of Eyes Staring Back
This story is about Malea, a sweet dog who suffered this kind of betrayal. She was abandoned and left in a hot dumpster, with the lid closed tight, by someone who didn't care what happened next.
Malea was waiting and hoping for kind humans to find her and give her the love she so badly needed.
Rescuers Rush To Save The Sweet Pittie
A caring man saw the horrible scene in a Missouri neighborhood and immediately called Stray Rescue of St. Louis for help.
The rescue team, led by Donna Lochmann, their chief life-saving officer, quickly went to the location to save the dog.
When they arrived and opened the dumpster lid, they were met with the sight of the sweetest, hopeful eyes looking up at them.
Malea’s tail started wagging, and a smile spread across her face. She was happy that someone had come to rescue her. Someone cared enough to help.
The rescuers were relieved to find her okay. But they couldn't help feeling deeply saddened at the thought that anyone could be so cruel to such an innocent animal.
"We tried to hold back tears, but this really choked us up. It was so hot inside; we're thankful she didn't pass out," Stray Rescue Louis wrote on their Facebook page.
They couldn’t bear to think about what could have happened if Malea had stayed trapped in that hot dumpster for much longer.
Malea Gets Showered With Love During Her Freedom Ride
Lochmann climbed into the dumpster and gently petted Malea, later giving her a name. After securing a leash around Malea's neck, she lifted her out of the dumpster and freed her.
The rescuers put Malea in their car and set out for the shelter in St. Louis.
Malea was full of gratitude for her rescuers, showering them with kisses and licking their faces. Lochmann cuddled her and spoke softly to reassure her that she was special and her life truly mattered.
"You're a beautiful girl. You do not belong in the dumpster. You are not trash. You are NOT trash. No. You're a beautiful girl. Your life matters. Yes, it does."
Malea leaned against Lochmann's shoulder, finally feeling safe and secure.
On their way to the shelter, the team received another urgent call about two puppies that needed help. These puppies had been left in a parking lot downtown.
The rescuers quickly changed direction and picked up the two puppies, who were thrilled to see them. With all three pups safe, they continued their journey to the shelter.
Searching For A Loving Home
Since the shelter was full, the puppies were placed in foster care, while Malea was enrolled in the Rovernight program, which allows people to host a dog in their home for a few days.
"She's in a loving home being spoiled! She gets along great with other dogs and is gentle with little kids, too," said Natalie Thomson, the rescue’s Director of Marketing.
Now, all three pups are getting plenty of love and attention, and they’re looking for their forever homes.
We are confident that these wonderful dogs will find the loving homes they deserve. They are special and should be treated as treasures.
Malea's story is a reminder of how important it is to take action when we see an animal in distress. A simple call to a rescue group or local shelter can make all the difference and save a life.
We are incredibly grateful to the Good Samaritan who alerted the rescue team about Malea. Thanks to his kindness, she was saved just in time.
