Keanu’s story was no different. He was left all alone, abandoned in the woods with no food or water, battling against the cold. The outlook was grim, and it seemed he had no chance of surviving.

Everything changed when two compassionate individuals discovered him and turned his fate around in the most incredible way.

Skin And Bones

When Ne La and Adrian found Keanu, he was on the brink of collapse. That day, he had reached a point where survival seemed nearly impossible.

Keanu lay motionless on the forest floor, unable to react or show any signs of life. He didn't have the strength to stand or respond in any way to the people who found him.

The couple reached out to 1 Dog At A Time Rescue, who promptly arranged for Keanu to be taken to their veterinarian, Denisa.

"It took several hours before he started to come through and respond. He could barely lift his head at the beginning," Jayne, co-founder of the rescue, told We Love Animals.

During the journey to the vet, Keanu lay in the car, placing his fragile trust in the humans around him. At that point, he had no energy left to do anything else.

Once they arrived at the clinic, the team immediately placed Keanu on an IV drip. Hours later, he made his first small response.

He managed to open his eyes and gently licked his rescuer’s hand, as if to say "Thank you!".

The Gentlest Soul

That small, tender gesture melted the hearts of everyone who saw it.

"Everybody that met him just fell in love with him. Just very gentle. Very, very gentle," Jayne shared.

For the next week, Keanu remained almost entirely still. His food and water bowls were placed close by as he ate and drank.

It wasn’t until a few days later that signs of improvement began to appear.

Keanu finally managed to get up on his paws and took a few tentative steps.

It was a touching sight that lifted everyone’s spirits.

Once he stepped outside, the progress came much faster.

Within weeks, Keanu's recovery advanced rapidly. He started to walk more often, spending longer periods outside and making new friends.

He even started playing with Elsa, a fellow rescue dog, rediscovering what it meant to be a playful pup.

Despite all the new activities, his favorite thing remained lying under a tree and savoring the peace of the moment.

"He is such a gentle boy, and is so relaxed with all our other dogs. He is very much his own person, and loves nothing more than lying outside under a tree and just be," the rescue shared on Facebook.

Keanu's energy and happiness returned in full. His eyes shone with gratitude and joy, showing just how much he appreciated his second chance at life.

He was finally ready to give back the love he had received.

"He's one of those dogs that comes around once in a lifetime. He's a very special dog," Jayne said.

Before long, Keanu found his forever home and a family that adored him.
