Yolanda had no idea what was in store for her

While Yolanda, a teacher at San Marcos High School in Texas, was on her way to work one day, she had no idea what was in store for her.

She was just about to step into the school when five tiny fur babies appeared out of nowhere, running straight toward her.

These puppies, clearly underfed and in desperate need of help, gazed up at her with big, pleading eyes

It was as if they were begging for some kindness and compassion. Yolanda couldn’t ignore their silent plea. Without hesitation, she rushed into the school and sought out her coworker, Belinda Peña, a senior assistant at the school.

When Peña came outside to check on the situation, she noticed a cardboard box nearby. It didn’t take long for her to realize that these sweet little pups had been abandoned.

Somehow, the hungry little ones had managed to escape the box and were now seeking help from the first kind face they saw.

After picking up the box, the two women discovered a heartbreaking note left by whoever had abandoned the puppies.

The message read, "Dog shelter didn’t want them. We can’t take care of them. The original owner wanted to throw them. I’m sure you can do something. I’m sorry."

Both Yolanda and Peña, along with other school staff, quickly stepped in to take care of the pups. The summer heat was brutal, so they made sure to give the puppies water to help them cool off.

Luckily, even though it was summertime and the staff had limited working hours, they happened to be at the school that day to assist the helpless little ones.

“If not, who knows what would have happened?” Peña told The Dodo.

The timing couldn’t have been better for these abandoned puppies.

After making sure the puppies were alright, the kind staff called animal control for help

While waiting for the officer to arrive, they played with the adorable fur babies.

Peña couldn’t help but gush about them: “They were the cutest things. They had big old ears … Just happy little puppies.”

It didn’t take long for one of the teachers to fall in love with one of the puppies. That day, she decided to take him home and give him a new life.

Meanwhile, Kay Lynn Dodd, a school counselor, became attached to the remaining four pups. As the animal control officer arrived, Dodd found herself struggling to let go of them.

“The officer was like, ‘Well, it is the end of the day, I can’t guarantee somebody’s going to be able to be there at the shelter to intake them.’ And I [was] like, ‘I can’t have that on my conscience,’” Dodd shared with The Dodo.

In that moment, she made a quick decision. She took the remaining four puppies home to foster them.

Dodd was determined to give them all the love and care they deserved

Dodd wanted to prepare them for their future forever homes, where they could be showered with love for the rest of their lives. 

Thanks to her attention and kindness, the puppies flourished in her care. They spent their days playing, feeling safe, and being adored by their foster mom.

She even gave them names—Rotund, Buttercup, Bandit, and Snickers.

These playful siblings seemed incredibly grateful for the second chance they had been given. They responded to Dodd’s love with affection and loyalty, clearly enjoying their time with her.

As much as they loved spending time with Dodd, the pups were also eager to find their forever families, the ones who would love them unconditionally.

Dodd's home was full of warmth and care, but she knew that one day, they would find their true homes.
